  • Excellent Acoustic Performance

  • Increase both airborne and impact acoustic performance

  • These 0.6m x 1.2m boards add high amounts of mass whilst staying lightweight

Hush-Panel Cem 28 comprises of an 18mm tongued and grooved cement particle board and a Hush Felt 10 resilient layer.

The Hush Cem Panel 28 is a high-mass acoustic flooring solution designed to enhance both airborne and impact sound insulation in lightweight construction projects. Combining robust materials with innovative design, this versatile panel is perfect for addressing noise control challenges in refurbishment, change of use, and new build developments. Its durable construction, featuring a cement particle board and resilient Hushfelt underlayer, ensures compliance with Building Regulations and delivers exceptional acoustic performance without compromising floor height.

What is the Hush Cem Panel 28?

The Hush Cem Panel 28 is an advanced acoustic floorboard engineered to improve soundproofing in lightweight buildings. It features an 18mm tongued and grooved cement particle board bonded to a 10mm Hushfelt resilient layer, making it a high-mass solution for reducing airborne and impact noise. This panel is ideal for projects requiring enhanced sound insulation, particularly in structures where standard acoustic flooring may fall short. Its innovative design ensures it adds significant mass without the need for excessive height, making it perfect for spaces with height constraints.

How Does the Hush Cem Panel 28 Work?

The Hush Cem Panel 28 combines the principles of mass and resilience to tackle noise transfer effectively. The high-density cement particle board increases mass, which improves the ability to block airborne noise. Meanwhile, the Hushfelt resilient layer decouples the panel from the subfloor, absorbing vibrations and reducing impact sound transmission. Together, these components create a floating floor system that isolates sound and vibration, delivering superior acoustic performance. By adding mass to lightweight constructions, the Hush Cem Panel 28 also improves airborne noise insulation, which is challenging to achieve with standard flooring solutions.

What is the Hush Cem Panel 28 Made Of?

The Hush Cem Panel 28 is constructed using premium materials to ensure durability and performance:

  • 18mm Cement Particle Board: This dense, moisture-resistant board provides the mass needed for effective airborne noise insulation and creates a stable surface for floor finishes.
  • 10mm Hushfelt Resilient Layer: Factory bonded to the underside, this layer absorbs vibrations and impact noise, forming an essential part of the panel’s acoustic performance.

This combination of materials results in a robust and reliable acoustic floor panel that meets Building Regulation Part E requirements and contributes to sustainable construction practices.

How Effective is the Hush Cem Panel 28 at Stopping Nuisance Noise?

The Hush Cem Panel 28 is highly effective at reducing both airborne and impact noise, making it an excellent choice for various construction projects. Its high-mass design enhances airborne noise performance, addressing a common challenge in lightweight buildings. The resilient Hushfelt layer dampens vibrations, reducing the transfer of impact noise caused by footsteps or dropped objects. The panel has been tested to exceed Building Regulations Part E (England & Wales), Section 5 (Scotland), and Part G (Northern Ireland), ensuring compliance with stringent acoustic standards.

Where Can the Hush Cem Panel 28 Be Used?

The versatility of the Hush Cem Panel 28 allows it to be used in a wide range of applications:

  • Refurbishment Projects: Ideal for upgrading the acoustic performance of existing lightweight structures.
  • New Build Developments: Suitable for timber and concrete subfloors in residential and commercial properties.
  • Multi-Storey Housing: Effective in reducing noise transfer between floors in apartments and flats.
  • Lightweight Constructions: Perfect for enhancing sound insulation in buildings with minimal mass.
  • Structural and Overlay Applications: Can be installed as a floating floor or directly over joists with the use of joist strips.

How to Install the Hush Cem Panel 28

  1. Preparation: Ensure the subfloor is clean, level, and free from debris.
  2. Layout Planning: Arrange panels in a broken bond pattern, avoiding cuts smaller than 150mm. Leave a 10-15mm gap along all perimeters for isolation.
  3. Install Perimeter Strips: Use Hush Seal 20 or Hush RD Flanking Strips to isolate the panels from the walls and create an airtight seal.
  4. Position Panels: Lay the panels with the Hushfelt side facing down, ensuring a snug fit between joints.
  5. Glue Joints: Apply Hush Cem Adhesive to all tongue-and-groove joints, ensuring a strong and seamless connection.
  6. Mechanical Fixing: Avoid using fasteners that penetrate the floating floor, except where two panels with cut edges meet, such as door openings.
  7. Finishing: For skirting boards, leave a 2-3mm gap above the panels and fill with Hush Acoustic Sealant for optimal results.

Instructions for use

  • Lay the Hush Cem Panel 28 Floating Flooring in a conventional broken bond pattern.
  • Glue all tongue & groove joints using Hush Cem Panel Adhesive.
  • Leave a 10-15mm expansion gap around all perimeters and press in Hush-Seal 20 Perimeter Seal ensuring that the floor floats freely of the walls maintaining acoustic isolation or perimeter detail as per Robust Detail instructions using Hush-RD Flanking Strip.

At door thresholds, access hatches or in the absence of a teegee joint Hush-Grommet Fixing Isolators can be used sparingly to eliminate ‘lipping’. No other fixings should be used when fitting the floating floor as any restrictions can adversely affect performance. Skirting should be fitted two or three millimeters clear of the floor surface.
