Designed as a versatile and high performing acoustic flooring product to be used in conjunction with timber structures.

The Hush Panel 37 is a cutting-edge acoustic flooring solution designed to enhance sound insulation in timber structures. This versatile product delivers exceptional performance by combining innovative materials with a user-friendly installation process. Comprising a 22mm high-density moisture-resistant chipboard, a 10mm Hushfelt resilient layer, and a 5mm Hush Barrier Mat, this panel offers unmatched noise reduction for both impact and airborne sounds. Ideal for refurbishment projects, new builds, and timber frame developments, the Hush Panel 37 meets UK Building Regulations Part E and Robust Details standards, ensuring superior acoustic performance and sustainability.

What is the Hush Panel 37?

The Hush Panel 37 is a premium acoustic flooring panel engineered to provide superior noise reduction in timber constructions. Its multi-layer design includes:

  • High-density chipboard for structural strength and stability.
  • Hushfelt resilient layer for impact sound reduction.
  • Hush Barrier Mat for enhanced airborne noise insulation.

This panel is suitable for overlay applications or can be laid directly over joists, making it a versatile choice for a variety of construction projects.

How Does the Hush Panel 37 Work?

The Hush Panel 37 effectively isolates noise by leveraging a combination of mass and resilience:

  1. High-Density Chipboard: Increases the mass of the structure, which blocks airborne noise.
  2. Hushfelt Resilient Layer: Absorbs impact energy, preventing vibrations from travelling through the floor structure.
  3. Hush Barrier Mat: Provides an additional layer of mass, further reducing airborne noise.

Together, these layers create a floating floor system that minimises sound transfer, meeting the stringent requirements of Building Regulations Part E and Robust Details standards.

What is the Hush Panel 37 Made of?

The Hush Panel 37 features a high-performance combination of materials:

  • 22mm High-Density Moisture-Resistant Chipboard: A durable and stable substrate for various floor finishes.
  • 10mm Hushfelt™ Resilient Layer: An eco-friendly felt designed to absorb impact noise.
  • 5mm Hush Barrier Mat: A rubber mat that adds mass to the panel, improving airborne noise insulation.

This construction ensures the panel is lightweight yet robust, with a density of 28kg per board.

How Effective is the Hush Panel 37 at Stopping Nuisance Noise?

The Hush Panel 37 excels at reducing both impact and airborne noise, making it an ideal solution for multi-storey buildings and noisy environments. Its combination of mass and resilience delivers:

  • Significant Impact Noise Reduction: The resilient Hushfelt layer absorbs vibrations caused by footsteps and dropped objects.
  • Enhanced Airborne Noise Insulation: The barrier mat and chipboard layers block sound transmission through the floor structure.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Meets and exceeds Part E, Section 5, and Part G of Building Regulations, ensuring reliable performance.

Where Can the Hush Panel 37 Be Used?

The versatility of the Hush Panel 37 makes it suitable for a wide range of applications:

  • Residential Projects: Ideal for reducing noise in homes and apartments.
  • Commercial Buildings: Provides effective soundproofing in offices and retail spaces.
  • Educational and Healthcare Facilities: Ensures quiet and comfortable environments for learning and care.
  • Timber Frame Developments: Compliant with Robust Details standards for timber constructions.
  • Overlay and Structural Applications: Can be installed as a floating floor or directly over joists.

How to Install the Hush Panel 37

  1. Prepare the Surface: Clear the area of debris and ensure the subfloor is clean and level.
  2. Plan the Layout: Arrange the panels in a broken bond pattern, avoiding cuts smaller than 150mm. Leave a 10-15mm gap along the perimeters for isolation.
  3. Use Perimeter Strips: Install Hush RD Flanking Strips around the room to isolate the panels from walls.
  4. Position Panels: Lay the panels with the Hushfelt side facing down.
  5. Glue Joints: Apply Hush Bond Panel Adhesive generously to all tongue-and-groove joints for a secure fit.
  6. Seal Gaps: Press the Hush Seal 20 into all perimeter gaps to create an airtight seal.
  7. Secure Skirting Boards: Use packers to raise skirting boards by 2-3mm above the panels, then fill the gap with Hush Acoustic Sealant.

For direct-to-joist installations, ensure the joists are adequately stiffened and spaced at suitable intervals. Use Hush 10 Joist Strips for optimal results.

How to Tile on Top of an Overlay System

  1. Select Suitable Adhesives and Grouts: Use products designed for floating floors. Consult the adhesive manufacturer for specific recommendations.
  2. Overlay with Tile Boards: Add proprietary tile boards or plywood to improve stiffness and water resistance.
  3. Choose Porcelain Tiles: Avoid heavy tiles like marble, and keep dimensions below 600mm x 600mm for stability.
  4. Apply Even Adhesion: Ensure all tiles are securely bonded to the surface.

By following these steps, the Hush Panel 37 can support tiled surfaces without compromising its acoustic performance.

Instructions for use

At door thresholds, access hatches or in the absence of a teegee joint Hush-Grommet Fixing Isolators can be used sparingly to eliminate ‘lipping’. No other fixings should be used when fitting the floating floor as any restrictions can adversely affect performance. Skirting should be fitted two or three millimeters clear of the floor surface. (PCT only).
