  • Dampens and absorbs the sound energy

  • Low cost, simple installation and good performance

  • 50mm width in 10m rolls

The Soundstop Joist Isolation Strip is the first acoustic joist treatment which combines low cost with effective sound attenuation.

The Joist Isolation Strip 50mm is an innovative acoustic solution designed to reduce noise transmission in floating floor systems. Made from over 90% recycled rubber and featuring a self-adhesive backing, this cost-effective product is easy to install and delivers reliable soundproofing performance. Perfect for new builds and refurbishment projects, the Joist Isolation Strip helps create a floating floor that is acoustically isolated from the rest of the structure, improving sound attenuation and creating quieter environments.

What is a Joist Isolation Strip?

A Joist Isolation Strip is a dense, rubber-based soundproofing product designed to dampen and absorb sound energy in floating floor systems. It fits snugly over joists, creating a resilient layer between the structural floor and the floating floor. The strip’s self-adhesive backing ensures a stable installation, making it an efficient and cost-effective solution for soundproofing timber and masonry floors.

How Do Joist Isolation Strips Work?

Joist Isolation Strips work by creating a resilient barrier between the structural joists and the floating floor. The dense rubber material absorbs and dampens sound energy, while the resilient layer prevents direct contact between the floating floor and the structure. This isolation minimises the transfer of vibrations, reducing airborne and impact noise. Additionally, the self-adhesive backing ensures the strip remains firmly attached to the joist, maintaining a stable and effective soundproofing layer.

How Effective Are Joist Isolation Strips at Stopping Nuisance Noise?

Joist Isolation Strips are highly effective at reducing noise transmission, providing an improvement of approximately 3-5dB in sound attenuation. By isolating the floating floor from the structural joists, the strips significantly reduce the transmission of both airborne and impact noise. While not a standalone soundproofing solution, they are a crucial component in creating quieter, more comfortable spaces when combined with other acoustic materials.

Where Can Joist Isolation Strips Be Used?

Joist Isolation Strips are versatile and can be used in various applications, including:

  • Timber Joist Floors: For creating floating floors in both residential and commercial buildings.
  • New Builds and Renovations: Suitable for use in new construction projects and refurbishment of existing structures.
  • Masonry Builds: Ideal for isolating joists in masonry structures.
  • Resilient Battens: Can be used upside down to form a resilient layer in custom resilient batten systems.

How to Install the Joist Isolation Strip

  1. Prepare the Joists: Ensure the joist surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust or grime to maximise adhesion.
  2. Apply the Strip: Remove the self-adhesive backing and position the strip over the joist. Press firmly to secure it in place.
  3. Ensure a Tight Fit: The strip should sit snugly on the joist to provide optimal acoustic performance.
  4. Install the Floating Floor: Lay the floating tongue-and-groove floor (e.g., chipboard) over the isolation strips.
  5. Seal with Flanking Band: Use angled flanking bands to seal the edges of the floating floor, ensuring complete isolation from the structural floor and walls.

The strips can also be applied from above or below the joists, and even before the joists are fitted.

What Are the Benefits of Using the Joist Isolation Strips?

  • Effective Noise Reduction: Improves sound attenuation by 3-5dB, reducing both airborne and impact noise.
  • Eco-Friendly Construction: Made from over 90% recycled rubber, promoting sustainable building practices.
  • Cost-Effective Solution: Combines affordability with reliable soundproofing performance.
  • Easy to Install: Features a self-adhesive backing for quick and hassle-free installation.
  • Versatile Applications: Suitable for timber and masonry floors, as well as resilient batten systems.
  • Durable Design: Built to withstand the demands of floating floor installations, ensuring long-lasting performance.

Instructions for use

The isolation strip can be fitted from either above or below the joists and even before the joists are fitted.

FSimply removed the self-adhesive backing and sit the strip over the joist ensuring the base is located tightly with the joist surface. It is advised that the joist surface is clear of dust and grime before attaching the strip as this may reduce the adhesive properties.

In all applications, our perimeter isolation strip must be used so the floating floor is fully isolated for the structural floor and walls.

Care should be taken to comply with all relevant Safety and Building Regulations.
