We are assuming that the wall that is being upgraded is a single skin brick wall which we think would rate at around 36dB basic performance. The figures in the table assume improvements over this level. They are Rw figures and not comparable with Reg.

GenieClip Soundproofing
The GenieClip is an innovative Canadian product which, in our opinion, offers significantly better protection against transmission when compared to other products.
The system is a superior alternative to other conventional systems producing better performance and is far less prone to fitting error. In fact its virtually impossible to fit incorrectly.
It significantly improves low frequency sound control performance and this is often the hardest frequency to cope with. Of all the resilient solutions that fix direct to joist it offers the best performance.

How it works
The GenieClip is a very high performance solution that provides the best single component we know of when soundproofing a wall. The clip itself outperforms a resilient bar by around 7 dB, an impressive amount, whilst also being relatively slim with just 41mm depth gain when used with furring strips.
The GenieClip is a moulded rubber and steel isolation clip used to to control the passage of noise. The integral springing mechanism provides much more dampening than the corrugations of a resilient bar system. In fact, performance numbers are superior even with a single layer of plasterboard potentially saving on materials cost and labour.
Installation Overview
The GenieClip is screwed direct to the wall in the same manner that it would be to stud work. Into the GenieClips, the furring strips are then clipped. To these furring strips plasterboard is then screwed.

The Direct to Wall Approach
To achieve any meaningful soundproofing you have to incorporate a layer of resilience to anything you add to a party wall. Sticking acoustic plasterboard direct to the wall will make very little difference to your soundproofing.
A number of options for party wall soundproofing are available from the very slim line stick on solutions to the thicker and more effective independent stud structures. We are frequently asked if resilient bars or GenieClip can be added direct to a party wall to save on space.
In the case of resilient bars, this does not seem to work, while GenieClips do seem to work well when attached direct to a solid party wall. We believe this is due to the much higher level of resilience that the GenieClip incorporates. The vibrations of sound transmission are absorbed much more effectively with rubber than with the metal of resilient bars. In effect the mass of the new soundproofing surface that you are adding is much better isolated than is the case with resilient bars.
The key to the superior performance of Clips is the high quality rubber mounting that is integral to the GenieClip. Countless studies point to the enhanced soundproofing performance of rubber over other sound dampeners.

Performance Upgrades
The use of resilient bars significantly improves the acoustic performance of a wall soundproofing project. However, for maximum performance, we offer two upgrades to the basic solution; one is by adding Tecsound 50 membrane; and the second using 10mm SBx boards.
Tecsound 50 Membrane Upgrade
A very high performance acoustic membrane, it is flexible and improves both impact and airborne passage of sound. It is a high density polymer based synthetic soundproofing membrane providing excellent acoustic insulation in different construction elements. The product is fire resistant and self extinguishing.
SBx Board Upgrade
These boards are an excellent product designed to reduce the transmission of impact and airborne sound between two spaces. The product is our number one choice when trying to improve the soundproofing from noisy neighbours. SBx can be used for soundproofing walls, floors and ceilings whether constructed from timber, steel or solid substrate, in new builds, conversions, remedial and refurbishment projects.

More information.....
When soundproofing a wall it is necessary to improve three basic components.
1. The mass of the wall - This is normally achieved by adding acoustic plasterboard and high density products. A very common mistake that is made is simply to add acoustic plasterboard directly to a party wall. This will not improve soundproofing.
2. The resilience of the wall - Resilience is a fanciful term for the springiness on the wall GenieClips are the best form of resilience we know of. Without this, the addition of the weight in the form of acoustic plasterboards will have will have very little impact.
3. The sound "absorbency" of the wall - We add other materials to break up the passage of the sound wave. In effect, the sounds energy gets absorbed more easily within the wall; here we prescribe the easfit slab.
Most internet sites refer to total performance of their product which is quite confusing, the performance figure attributed to the product is the performance soundproofing materials combined with that of an average wall. We don't believe that this is very helpful as it is hard to attribute the performance of the product itself.
We give an indication of performance uplift. A 10dB of performance uplift should provide a 50% improvement in the performance of the wall. So 20dB would indicate a 50% and then 50% again or A 75% improvement over and above the original wall.
If you are thinking of refitting electrical sockets back into the wall. you might be advised to line your electrical boxes with our acoustic putty.
Remember, a 1% hole in your soundproofing surface can reduce performance of your soundproofing by up to 10%. Lining your plug sockets will go some way to reducing this leakage.
We are frequently asked whether it is necessary to run wall soundproofing around the chimney breast on a party wall?
While there is no definitive answer on this acoustic question, we are of the opinion that sound proofing the alcoves either side is usually sufficient. This is because chimneys are typically constructed to be fire and smoke proof and are at least of double brick construction, whereas the walls either side, the alcoves, may be poorly constructed and of single brick.
Of course there are exceptions, but in the majority of cases you can reduce your labour and time considerably by just sticking the acoustic panels in the alcoves.
Due to the acoustic nature of stud walls and timber framed walls we would recommend a different set of treatments when upgrading these walls as described in solution 5, stud wall soundproofing. Example results based on typical party wall construction of 100mm brick wall (38-43dB).
The best results for the SM20 system is achieved with solid brick party walls. Breeze block walls may suffer from flanking transmission problems so any soundproofing treatments require an assessment of this possible difficulty of flanking transmission.

from 273 reviewsI called Soundstop with lots of questions and the person I spoke with was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I ended up purchasing soundproofed plasterboards and genie clip system from them
Two alcoves with independent stud walls built and insulation/clips installed.
The result? It works, was sceptical it would,so it was a gamble, sound reduced from neighbours is 70% less and now feel like our semi detached house is more like a fully detached! I’m glad I did it, took me 2 days in total.
All products for a LB2 soundproof ceiling are as expected and delivered on time. The advice given before ordering and before installation was second to none. The guys at soundstop really care that your project goes well. Can't recommend them enough!
From query to delivery always a pleasure to do business with. Can recommend enough. We have used both the standard and advanced (sbx) sm20 systems and they have both made a huge difference in a mid terraced house.
