  • Excellent acoustic performance

  • These 0.6m x 1.2m boards are ideal for areas with limited room height

  • Can be laid over existing or new concrete & timber floors

Hush Panel 17 (equivalent of Monarfloor Deck 9) has been designed as a thinner overlay board to minimise floor build where required, without compromising performance.

The Hush Panel 17 is a state-of-the-art acoustic overlay board designed to deliver exceptional soundproofing performance in a sleek, low-profile design. With a thickness of just 17mm, it is ideal for projects where maintaining minimal floor height is crucial, such as refurbishments, renovations, or retrofitting soundproofing into existing buildings. Whether used in residential, commercial, or industrial settings, the Hush Panel 17 excels in reducing impact noise and ensuring compliance with strict Building Regulation standards. Combining innovative materials and robust construction, it offers a smooth and durable surface ready for a variety of floor finishes.

What is the Hush Panel 17?

The Hush Panel 17 is an innovative acoustic flooring solution specifically designed to tackle noise transmission between floors while preserving space. This premium overlay board comprises a 9mm moisture-resistant MDF upper layer bonded to a 10mm Hushfelt resilient acoustic layer. Its lightweight and compact design make it the perfect choice for floating floors in both new builds and refurbishment projects. By providing robust impact sound insulation, the Hush Panel 17 achieves superior noise reduction while meeting and exceeding Building Regulations Part E, ensuring compliance with acoustic standards across the UK.

How Does the Hush Panel 17 Work?

The Hush Panel 17 creates a floating floor system by decoupling the walking surface from the structural subfloor. The Hushfelt resilient layer beneath the MDF absorbs impact energy and dampens vibrations, preventing noise from travelling through the structure. The floating design isolates the surface layer, reducing sound transmission caused by footsteps, dropped objects, or other impact sources. When paired with perimeter isolation strips, the system forms an airtight seal, further enhancing its acoustic performance by minimising flanking noise.

This advanced system is particularly effective when combined with additional soundproofing elements, such as acoustic mineral wool or ceiling systems, to create a comprehensive noise reduction solution.

What is the Hush Panel 17 Made of?

The Hush Panel 17 is constructed with two high-performance components:

  1. 9mm Moisture-Resistant MDF: This durable upper layer offers a stable, smooth surface suitable for applying floor finishes such as engineered wood, laminate, or carpet. Its moisture resistance ensures longevity, even in humid environments.
  2. 10mm Hushfelt Resilient Layer: This factory-bonded acoustic layer provides exceptional soundproofing by absorbing and dissipating vibrations, significantly reducing impact noise.

These materials work together to create a lightweight, robust, and efficient acoustic flooring system that meets the demands of modern construction and renovation projects.

How Effective is the Hush Panel 17 at Stopping Nuisance Noise?

The Hush Panel 17 is highly effective at mitigating both impact and airborne noise. Its Hushfelt layer is specifically engineered to absorb impact energy, reducing noise caused by footsteps, dropped items, or furniture movement. When installed as part of a complete soundproofing system, it meets and exceeds Part E of Building Regulations, ensuring optimal performance in residential and commercial applications.

The system is also compliant with Robust Detail FFT5, making it suitable for use in high-performance soundproofing setups such as EFC-1, EFC-2, and EFS-1 floor structures. Whether you’re dealing with noisy upstairs neighbours or looking to enhance privacy between floors, the Hush Panel 17 provides reliable and consistent noise reduction.

Where Can the Hush Panel 17 Be Used?

The versatility of the Hush Panel 17 makes it suitable for a wide range of applications:

  • Residential Homes: Ideal for retrofitting soundproofing into existing homes or new builds.
  • Commercial Spaces: Enhances acoustic performance in offices, retail outlets, and public spaces.
  • Refurbishment Projects: Perfect for maintaining minimal height while improving sound insulation.
  • Industrial Settings: Suitable for areas where robust soundproofing is required.
  • Concrete and Timber Floors: Can be laid over new or existing subfloors for comprehensive acoustic enhancement.

Whether you’re upgrading the soundproofing in an older building or meeting regulatory requirements in a new project, the Hush Panel 17 is a flexible and effective solution.

How to Install the Hush Panel 17

  1. Prepare the Subfloor: Clear the area of debris, ensuring the surface is clean, level, and dry.
  2. Plan the Layout: Arrange the panels in a broken bond pattern, ensuring no panel is smaller than 150mm. Leave a 10-15mm gap around walls and fixed objects for perimeter isolation.
  3. Install Perimeter Strips: Use Hush Seal 20 or Hush RD Flanking Strips to create an airtight seal around the room’s perimeter.
  4. Position the Panels: Lay the panels with the Hushfelt layer facing down, ensuring a snug fit.
  5. Glue Joints: Apply Hush Bond Panel Adhesive generously to all tongue-and-groove joints for a secure bond.
  6. Skirting Boards: Use spacers to create a 2-3mm gap above the panels before fixing skirting boards. Seal the gap with Hush Acoustic Sealant for a professional finish.
  7. Final Check: Ensure all joints are secure and the perimeter is properly sealed to maximise acoustic performance.

For specialised applications, such as tiling or direct joist installations, additional steps may be required. Consult the manufacturer’s guidelines for detailed instructions.

Instructions for use

  • Lay the Hush Panel 17 Floating Flooring in a conventional broken bond pattern.
  • Glue all tongue & groove joints using Hush Cem Panel Adhesive.
  • Leave a 10-15mm expansion gap around all perimeters and press in Hush-Seal 20 Perimeter Seal ensuring that the floor floats freely of the walls maintaining acoustic isolation or perimeter detail as per Robust Detail instructions using Hush-RD Flanking Strip.

At door thresholds, access hatches or in the absence of a teegee joint Hush-Grommet Fixing Isolators can be used sparingly to eliminate ‘lipping’. No other fixings should be used when fitting the floating floor as any restrictions can adversely affect performance. Skirting should be fitted two or three millimeters clear of the floor surface. (PCT only).
