Hush Panel 28 is a sound reducing floor panel that can be used as a structural or an overlay floor board.

The Hush Panel 28 is a premium acoustic flooring solution designed to deliver superior impact sound reduction in both residential and commercial projects. Featuring a 28mm construction, this versatile floor panel can be used as a structural or overlay board, providing unmatched flexibility for various flooring setups. Whether installed over timber joists, existing concrete, or timber floors, the Hush Panel 28 ensures compliance with strict Building Regulation Part E requirements while achieving outstanding noise reduction performance. Ideal for both new builds and refurbishment projects, it’s a robust, adaptable, and efficient solution for creating quieter, more comfortable living and working spaces.

What is the Hush Panel 28?

The Hush Panel 28 is an advanced acoustic flooring system specifically engineered to minimise noise transmission between separating floors. With its 18mm high-density, moisture-resistant P5 chipboard upper layer and a 10mm Hushfelt resilient acoustic underlayer, this panel is a reliable solution for reducing both impact and airborne noise. It is particularly well-suited for applications where floor height must be kept to a minimum without sacrificing acoustic performance. Whether used as a floating floor or directly over joists, the Hush Panel 28 is a versatile choice for enhancing sound insulation.

How Does the Hush Panel 28 Work?

The Hush Panel 28 reduces noise transmission through a combination of its Hushfelt acoustic underlayer and its high-density chipboard top layer. The resilient Hushfelt layer decouples the floor surface from the structural subfloor, absorbing vibrations and impact energy that would otherwise transfer through the building structure. This floating floor design significantly reduces impact noise, such as footsteps or dropped items, while the dense chipboard helps block airborne sound. Additionally, the tongue-and-groove joints ensure a tight, seamless connection, further enhancing the panel's noise-reducing capabilities.

What is the Hush Panel 28 Made of?

The Hush Panel 28 is constructed with two high-quality components:

  1. 18mm Moisture-Resistant P5 Chipboard: This durable, tongued-and-grooved layer provides a smooth, stable surface for floor finishes and resists moisture to ensure long-lasting performance.
  2. 10mm Hushfelt Acoustic Layer: Factory-bonded to the underside of the chipboard, this resilient layer absorbs impact noise and dampens vibrations, making it a key feature of the panel's soundproofing capabilities.

The combination of these materials creates a highly efficient soundproofing system that is both durable and adaptable.

How Effective is the Hush Panel 28 at Stopping Nuisance Noise?

The Hush Panel 28 is highly effective in reducing both impact noise and airborne sound transmission, making it an ideal solution for a wide range of soundproofing needs. The panel is compliant with Robust Detail FFT5, achieving excellent results in floor structures such as EFC-1, EFC-2, and EFS-1. Whether used over concrete subfloors, existing timber floors, or directly on joists, the Hush Panel 28 meets and exceeds Building Regulation Part E standards, ensuring a quieter environment in residential and commercial settings. Its high-density construction and resilient underlayer work together to reduce noise transfer and create a more peaceful space.

Where Can the Hush Panel 28 Be Used?

The versatility of the Hush Panel 28 makes it suitable for a wide range of applications:

  • Residential Homes: Perfect for retrofitting soundproofing or enhancing new builds.
  • Commercial Spaces: Ideal for offices, retail environments, and public buildings.
  • Refurbishment Projects: Provides excellent acoustic performance without significant floor height increase.
  • Concrete and Timber Subfloors: Compatible with various subfloor types, offering flexibility in installation.
  • Direct Joist Applications: Can be installed directly on joists using Hush 10 Joist Strips for structural support.

How to Install the Hush Panel 28

  1. Prepare the Subfloor: Ensure the surface is clean, level, and free from debris.
  2. Plan the Layout: Arrange the panels in a broken bond pattern, avoiding small cuts (less than 150mm). Leave a 10-15mm gap around walls and fixed objects for perimeter isolation.
  3. Install Perimeter Strips: Use Hush Seal 20 or Hush RD Flanking Strips to create an airtight seal along the room's perimeter.
  4. Position the Panels: Lay the panels with the Hushfelt layer facing down, ensuring a snug fit.
  5. Glue Joints: Apply Hush Bond Panel Adhesive generously to all tongue-and-groove joints for a secure bond.
  6. Skirting Boards: Use spacers to maintain a 2-3mm gap between the skirting board and panels. Seal the gap with Hush Acoustic Sealant for optimal results.
  7. Direct Joist Installation: When laying directly on joists, ensure the centres do not exceed 450mm. Use Hush 10 Joist Strips for additional lateral stiffness.

For specific applications, such as tiling or specialised acoustic systems, consult the manufacturer’s guidelines for detailed instructions.
