This versatile and high-performing panel is engineered to meet and exceed UK Building Regulations, including Approved Document E (England & Wales), Section 5 (Scotland), and Part G (Northern Ireland). With its innovative multi-layer design, the Hush Panel 33 offers exceptional acoustic performance, making it suitable for new builds, refurbishments, and timber frame developments. Its Peel Clean version ensures spotless handovers, saving time and improving efficiency for developers and contractors.

What is the Hush Panel 33?

The Hush Panel 33 is a high-performance acoustic flooring panel that combines multiple layers of advanced materials to deliver superior sound insulation. Designed specifically for timber structures, it provides an effective solution for reducing both impact and airborne noise in a variety of construction projects. Its 18mm High-Density Moisture-Resistant Chipboard, 10mm Hushfelt Resilient Layer, and 5mm Hush Barrier Mat work together to provide excellent soundproofing without compromising on durability or ease of installation. Whether used as an overlay floor or installed directly over joists, the Hush Panel 33 is an economical and reliable option for noise reduction.

How Does the Hush Panel 33 Work?

The Hush Panel 33 employs a multi-layer system to tackle noise effectively:

  1. Impact Noise Reduction: The Hushfelt Resilient Layer absorbs vibrations and impact sounds, such as footsteps or furniture movement, reducing their transmission through the floor structure.
  2. Airborne Noise Blocking: The high-density chipboard and Hush Barrier Mat create a solid mass that blocks airborne sounds, such as conversations, music, and TV noise.
  3. Decoupling Effect: By isolating the flooring from the underlying structure, the panel prevents direct pathways for sound transmission, enhancing its acoustic performance.

This combination makes the Hush Panel 33 an effective solution for reducing noise in both residential and commercial environments.

What is the Hush Panel 33 Made Of?

The Hush Panel 33 is constructed from three layers of specialised materials:

  • 18mm High-Density P5 Moisture-Resistant Chipboard: Provides a robust and durable base for various flooring finishes.
  • 10mm Hushfelt Resilient Layer: Absorbs vibrations and impact energy, enhancing sound insulation.
  • 5mm Hush Barrier Mat: Adds mass to block airborne noise effectively.

These materials ensure the panel is lightweight yet dense, with a board density of 26kg per board, making it both durable and easy to handle during installation.

How Effective is the Hush Panel 33 at Stopping Nuisance Noise?

The Hush Panel 33 delivers exceptional noise reduction performance by targeting both impact and airborne sounds:

  • Impact Noise: The resilient Hushfelt layer significantly reduces noise caused by footfalls, dropped objects, and furniture movement, creating a quieter environment for those below.
  • Airborne Noise: The dense chipboard and barrier mat layers block sound waves, preventing noise transmission between floors.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Fully compliant with UK Building Regulations and Robust Details standards, ensuring its suitability for a variety of building types.

With its innovative design, the Hush Panel 33 can significantly improve the acoustic comfort of any space.

Where Can the Hush Panel 33 Be Used?

The Hush Panel 33 is suitable for a wide range of applications, including:

  • Residential Buildings: Ideal for flats, houses, and multi-occupancy dwellings where noise control is essential.
  • Commercial Properties: Provides effective soundproofing in offices, retail spaces, and other commercial environments.
  • Educational and Healthcare Facilities: Ensures a quieter, more comfortable environment for learning and healing.
  • Timber Frame Developments: Specially designed for timber structures, meeting Robust Details standards for acoustic performance.
  • Overlay and Direct-to-Joist Applications: Can be installed as a floating floor over concrete or timber or directly over joists without the need for additional joist strips.

How to Install the Hush Panel 33

  1. Prepare the Surface:
    • Ensure the subfloor is clean, level, and free from debris.
  2. Plan the Layout:
    • Lay the panels in a broken bond pattern, avoiding small cuts (less than 150mm).
    • Use Hush RD Flanking Strips along the perimeters to create an airtight seal.
  3. Install the Panels:
    • Place the panels with the Hushfelt layer facing down for optimal performance.
  4. Glue the Joints:
    • Apply Hush Bond Panel Adhesive to all tongue-and-groove joints, ensuring a secure and airtight fit.
  5. Seal Perimeters:
    • Use Hush Seal 20 Perimeter Seal to fill gaps between the panels and walls.
  6. Direct-to-Joist Installation:
    • Ensure joists are adequately spaced and stiffened. No additional joist strips are required for Hush Panel 33.

Instructions for use

At door thresholds, access hatches or in the absence of a teegee joint Hush-Grommet Fixing Isolators can be used sparingly to eliminate ‘lipping’. No other fixings should be used when fitting the floating floor as any restrictions can adversely affect performance. Skirting should be fitted two or three millimeters clear of the floor surface. (PCT only).
