What is a Retro-fit Acoustic Door Insulation Kit?
The Retro-fit Acoustic Door Insulation Kit is a surface-mounted soundproofing solution designed for existing doors. It includes components to reduce both airborne and vibrational noise, ensuring a significant improvement in sound insulation. The kit contains:
-
Acoustic Drop Seal: Automatically seals the gap between the door and the floor when the door closes.
-
Corner Seals: Three seals for the sides and top of the doorframe to block airborne noise.
-
Graphite Hinge Pads: Minimise vibrational noise transfer through the door hinges.
This versatile kit is compatible with a variety of door types, including timber and metal swing doors.
The kit contains:
- Retrofit, surface mounted acoustic drop seal for bottom of door
- Three 2.1m corner seals for the sides and top of doorframe
- Pack of three graphite hinge pads
How Does the Acoustic Door Insulation Kit Work?
The Acoustic Door Insulation Kit employs a combination of physical barriers and vibration-damping components to prevent noise transfer:
- Acoustic Drop Seal:
Mounted on the bottom of the door, this seal automatically drops up to 14mm when the door is closed. It creates a tight barrier against sound leakage through the floor gap.
- Corner Seals:
These seals line the top and sides of the doorframe, forming a two-part seal with the door to block airborne noise.
- Graphite Hinge Pads:
Positioned between the door hinges and the frame, these pads absorb vibrations and prevent structural noise transfer.
By addressing both airborne and structural noise, the kit provides comprehensive soundproofing for doors.

How Effective is the Retro-fit Acoustic Door Insulation Kit at Stopping Nuisance Noise?
The Retro-fit Acoustic Door Insulation Kit is highly effective, offering sound insulation of up to 37dB. Key factors contributing to its performance include:
-
The tight seals created by the drop-down mechanism and corner seals, which significantly reduce airborne noise transfer.
-
The graphite hinge pads, which dampen vibrations to prevent structural noise from passing through the door.
-
Its ability to cover common noise entry points, such as gaps between the door and floor or frame.
The effectiveness of the kit is enhanced when paired with a solid core door and quality surrounding soundproofing materials.
Where Can the Acoustic Door Insulation Kit Be Used?
This kit is ideal for a variety of applications, including:
-
Residential Spaces: Bedrooms, home offices, or any room requiring enhanced privacy and reduced noise levels.
-
Commercial Buildings: Offices, meeting rooms, or conference spaces.
-
Public Spaces: Libraries, hospitals, or educational institutions.

The drop seal should be cut down to size with a hacksaw, only on the side opposite the plunger - this can be done by as much as 150mm in necessary. The drop seal can then be secured to the bottom of the door, on the side facing the doorstop. The product is reversible.
The corner seals are fitted into the corner of the door frame, on all three sides. Simply peel off the back tape, and apply pressure to fit.
The hinge pads are placed between the hinge and the doorframe if required./p>
